Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows the doctor to look through the cervix to examine the uterine cavity. A telescope-like instrument called a hysteroscope is used. It is used as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
We perform hysteroscopy to correct the following uterine conditions:
- Benign tumors and fibroids: Hysteroscopy is used to remove these non-cancerous growths in the uterus.
- Adhesions: Also known as Asherman syndrome, uterine adhesions are bands of scar tissue that can form in the uterus and may lead to changes in menstrual flow as well as infertility. Hysteroscopy can help your doctor locate and remove adhesions.
- Septum: Hysteroscopy can help determine if you have a uterine septum, which is a uterine abnormality that has been present since birth.
- Abnormal bleeding: Hysteroscopy can help determine the cause of heavy or long menstrual flow, as well as bleeding between periods or after menopause (menopause).
Endometrial ablation is a procedure in which a hysteroscope, along with other instruments, is used to destroy the lining of the uterus in order to treat some causes of heavy bleeding.
